The most common complaints I have heard people levy against the Thief reboot is that it is too linear and not liking the story. With regards to broader concepts, they kept many ideas, but they implemented many mechanics differently and added other mechanics. It takes place in a later era with a different protagonist and a new story. When you approach it, remember that it is a complete reboot, and they made different design choices regarding many things. In contrast, the Thief reboot was developed many years later by a completely different company with different people. It continues the story from the previous two games. It was developed by a different company than the first two, but many of the same people from Looking Glass were involved with it at Ion Storm. Deadly Shadows definitely did some different things, but it kept a lot of the core feel and mechanics of the first two. I enjoyed Deadly Shadows and the Thief reboot.
